There aren’t many on the world music scene who can tie together so effortlessly the ethos of African music with Western sensibility, but Byron Bay area local, Yeshe, is one who can. Born in Germany, Yeshe began his musical education within the thriving European world music scene at the time, furthering his studies with regular pilgrimages to Africa, immersing himself in the traditional African sounds of the Mbira (Zimbabwean thumb-piano) and Kamele ngoni (West African lute), studying under master Garkayi Tirikoti. From there to Australia, where via his two albums, Yeshe has shown himself a master of Global Roots, one based in tradition, but with limitless possibilities. |
