Volunteering to assist with NFF public relations
Are you a PR student looking to gain practical industry experience? Or are you a PR professional who’d like to use your skills to support a worthy charity? The National Folk Festival is looking for volunteers to assist with its communications activities.
Volunteer applications are now open, so visit the page at http://www.folkfestival.org.au/apply/volunteers/how-to and follow the links to complete the online application.
Just choose ‘comms centre’ from the drop-down lists and please indicate in the special requirements/comments field that you are volunteering to assist the contentgroup with media/PR.
Of course, you are welcome to indicate your interest in volunteering with any other area of the Festival as well.
Completing this form ensures you are properly registered and insured as an official Festival volunteer – note the requirement to complete the brief safety induction as well.
Being a volunteer with the Festival entitles you to a whole range of benefits, plus you should be able to gain some great experience of developing and implementing communication strategies and managing media for a major event.
Once you’ve submitted your application, please e-mail the contentgroup back to confirm your interest, and also to let them know your available days/hours to work (now and closer to the Festival) as well as any areas of PR in which you’d particularly like to gain experience.
Please attach a copy of your current resume.
For example, some of the areas in which you’ll be able to assist might include
• assisting in strategy development,
• conducting basic research and surveys,
• organising competitions, developing and distributing special offers and incentives,
• organising images in a photo library,
• assisting in liaison with designers, publishers, advertising outlets, etc,
• managing media attendance in advance and on site (organising passes, accreditation),
• writing news and feature articles, drafting media releases,
• developing sponsorship materials, and
• developing and implementing a basic donation strategy,
