It takes about 1000 people working behind the scenes to make our Festival happen. Only a handful of these are paid; the rest are volunteers. Volunteers do everything that needs to be done to make our Festival happen. They pour drinks, check in performers, sell tickets, check wristbands, patrol car parks, answer phones, and set up venues. They are the heart and soul of our event, and we are always looking for people to get involved and become part of the Festival family.
Ask any of our hundreds of return volunteers why they volunteer and you’ll be amazed at the range of answers, but mostly it’s because you cross over from being an audience member to being part of the Festival team. You are no longer just attending the Festival, you are part of the family making it happen. There are plenty of opportunities to learn new skills or pass on your knowledge, and the friendships, camaraderie, sense of community, and laughter more than compensate for giving up a few hours out of each day.
Volunteers who complete 20 hours at the Festival , 30 hours in the setup and pack down period or 40 hours in the Mitchell office receive:
- A Season + Camping pass to the festival
- A copy of the Festival program
- Access to volunteer facilities such as discounted meals from stallholders and free tea and coffee in the volunteer centre
- An invitation to the volunteer party on the final night at the Festival
THE COMMITMENT YOU MAKE
As a volunteer you are committing to a minimum of hours depending on the team that you join:
- 20 hours work over the Festival period (Thursday to Monday)
- 30 hours of work if you choose a Setup and Pack down period team. This includes Setup & Pack down teams, Set Design, Construction, Sparky’s, Pre-Setup Volunteers and the Pre-Festival Gates team.
- 40 hours for volunteers who work throughout the year in our Mitchell office
Who Can Volunteer
Volunteering is open to anyone over the age of 16.
Note: If you are under 18 you must submit a youth consent form when you apply for your application to be considered.
THE Application PROCESS
Completing your volunteer application for the Festival will take about 20 minutes. Once you have chosen your preferred team, there are two steps you will need to complete before your application is considered:
- Step 1. Fill in the online application form
- Step 2. Complete the online volunteer induction
We recommend that you use Firefox, Chrome, or Safari to complete the application. If you use Internet Explorer, you will need version 9 or above. When you have completed the application form and the induction you will receive an email confirming that your application has been submitted successfully. If you do not see an email from the Festival confirming your application, please check your Spam and Junk mail as it may be there.
You will be contacted by mid January to confirm that you have been accepted as a volunteer and to tell you which team you have been allocated to. From mid January on, acceptance letters are sent on a weekly basis. Once you are accepted you will be given the contact details of the Area Coordinator for your team. You will need to contact them to re-confirm your availability so that they can place you on the roster. When you have been confirmed on the roster, you will be sent a link to redeem your volunteer ticket and camping pass. You must redeem this ticket to access the Festival site. Tickets are usually sent out one month prior to the Festival via email.
