We try hard to put volunteers in preferred teams based on the information provided in the application, but there is no guarantee that you will be placed in your first choice team. Some teams are filling fast or are already full. Access Team - TEAM FULL
What: The Access Team assist in making the Festival more accessible to people with disabilities, including erecting signage and helping to meet access requirements for patrons with special needs. Managing reserved disability parking and providing helpful information when required.Who: Good communication skills and the ability to think laterally. Physically fit and able to escort patrons around the Festival if required. An understanding of the challenges facing people with disabilities would be highly desirable.
When: The Access Team operates during the Festival Period – Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday 9am to 7pm. Assistance with mark out pre-Festival may be required.
How: Face-to-face training will be provided during your first shift.
Admin T - TEAM FULL
What: Back office processing of transactions passing through the Festival Company accounting systems.Who: Be able to work both independently and as part of a closely-knit team. Work both quickly and accurately with high attention to detail. Cash handling experience is desirable but not essential. Remain calm when working under pressure. Have good interpersonal skills. Have a good sense of humour. Must be computer literate to complete on screen form filling and data entry. Minimal typing skills are required. All work includes elements of data entry.
When: Festival Period – Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday between 7am and 3am.
Ideally be available for all 5 Festival days but must be available to work on a minimum of 4 days to complete 20 hours volunteering. You should be prepared to work at least one late-night shift.
Training: Some on-line familiarisation will be provided before the Festival. Face-to-face training will be available before your first shift or will happen during the first shift depending on your availability.
Bar Setup
What: Setup and Packdown Role: Installation of Festival bars and bar related equipment.Festival Role: Assisting with the daily open and close of bars. Troubleshoot issues that arise during the Festival with the bars and support the bars staff and managers with equipment issues e.g. Changing kegs, cleaning lines, fixing gas pressure. When required, work with the Bar Stock team to put together orders for individual bars and deliver stock in the AM and PM
Who: Volunteers must be over 25 and physically fit as some heavy lifting is involved. Equipment and product knowledge is also desirable but not essential.
When: Tuesday pre-Festival to Wednesday post-Festival. Please note that shifts in this team can extend to between midnight and 4am and can be on-call split shifts.
How: Face to face training held at the start of the first shift.
Bar Stock
What:Setup and Packdown:
Assisting with the setup and pack down of the Festival bars delivering and collecting stock. Receiving goods from suppliers and reconciling it post Festival. Festival period: Putting together orders for individual bars and delivering stock in the AM and PM.Who: Volunteers must be over 18 and physically capable and willing to do heavy lifting as this role involves manual labour around the movement of liquor stock. A reasonable amount of product knowledge is an advantage but not essential. Australian driver's license preferred.
When: Tuesday pre-Festival to Wednesday post-Festival (This team operates in the early morning and in the evening. Some split shifts may be required). Availability Wednesday pre-Festival and the Monday night is preferred.
How: Volunteers will need to read the Bar Stock Manual prior to arriving for their first shift. Face-to-face training will then be provided at the start of the first shift.
Bars
What: Working in one of the Festival’s five bars taking orders, pouring and serve alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, and helping to keep the bar front of house clean at all times. Monitoring RSA at all times, requesting proof of age when appropriate and escalating matters where appropriate via your Shift or Bar Manager.**As a member of a Bar team you will also do at least one shift as a Bar Cashier selling Festival drink tickets the bar that you are assigned to.**
The Festival bars are; Session Bar Bohemia Bar Flute & Fiddle Bar Scrumpy Bar New Bar
– Please note you will be assigned to a specific bar. You may indicate your preference however this is not guaranteed.
Who: Volunteers must be over 18, preference is given to those with a current RSA from any state who upload a copy with their application. Volunteers need to work well in a fast-paced environments, be able to stand for long periods of time and be physically fit as there is some heavy lifting involved.
When: Wednesday (Flute and Fiddle and Session Bar), Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. All Volunteers will work at least one opening (10am) and one closing shift between 1am and 4am depending on the Bar.
How: Compulsory face-to-face training to be advised by your coordinator once you are assigned to a Bar.
Shift Managers: Each Bar at the Festival has a number of shift managers. If you have a management background or would like to gain experience and you are interested in a shift management position, please send your resume to voladmin[at]folkfestival.org.au. Staff training times will be advised by the Bar Managers closer to the event.
Bohemia Venue Team
(This is a closed team – Only apply for the Bohemia Venue Team if pre-arranged with the Area Coordinator)What: The Bohemia Venue Team is responsible for the venue management, MC duties and Blackboard stage.
Who: Friendly outgoing people who work well in a team.
When: Thursday 5pm to Midnight, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 10am to Midnight; Monday 10am to 11pm.
How: Compulsory face-to-face training provided before first shift.
Campsite Team
What: This team mark out and monitor general camping areas including roadways and 'no camping' area. They mark out pre-sold campsites and assist with the management of these areas, greet Festival campers as they arrive and direct them towards their space, and monitor roadways to ensure that cars are moving responsibly and not parked on designated roads.Who: All volunteers must be 18 years or over and enjoy a bit of hard work. A good level of physical fitness is desirable as you are working outdoors on your feet. A friendly welcoming manner and a big smile are advantageous as you are part of the welcoming committee to the Festival.
When: Friday pre-Festival to Saturday of Festival between 8am and 8pm.
How: Compulsory face-to-face training provided at the start of your first shift.
Car Parking Team
What: This team facilitates daily access to park parking at the Flemington Road Carpark for the duration of the Festival.Who: People that are comfortable with traffic management and cash handling. A friendly welcoming manner and a big smile are advantageous as you are part of the welcoming committee to the Festival. A good level of physical fitness is desirable as you are working outdoors on your feet.
When: Thursday 9 April to Monday 13 April, Festival hours.
How: Compulsory face-to-face training provided at the start of your first shift.
Comms
What: Monitoring Festival radio channels and answering telephones to assist in smooth event management. Radio operations, keeping radio logs and communicating with the Emergency Control Centre, Festival Staff and Area Coordinators as required.Who: Volunteers must have a clear English speaking voice, the ability to follow procedures and a high attention to detail. Experience monitoring radio communications and keeping a running logbook is highly desirable.
When: Pre-Festival: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, 8am - 6pm. Festival: Wednesday - Tuesday, 7am - 3am. Comms Volunteers usually work 4 x 5 hour shifts over 4 or 5 days.
How:Face-to-face training time TBA by the Coordinator.
Community Arts
What: Working with Festival attendees of all ages on a range of art activities from painting to building musical instruments. Helping to inspire, assist and nurture the creativity of others is what creates the Festival village feeling that we all love.Who: Art teachers and creative types (highly desirable) who have good people skills, a happy and friendly disposition, and the ability to demonstrate and instruct others in art/creativity skills. Volunteering in this team requires a leadership ability where Volunteers proactively encourage attendees and curious Festival patrons to participate in the team’s activities. To do this, Volunteers are required to:
- Engage with attendees to encourage participation
- Question participants about what they would like to create and assist with ideas
- Model creativity by initiating a project and inviting participation of attendees in the activity
- Observe the needs of other Volunteers and attendees and assist in other activities if required
When: Thurs – Mon during Festival between 8am and 8pm.
How:Compulsory face-to-face training provided before first shift. Volunteers will also be able to attend lantern-making workshops on Friday and Saturday mornings. These workshops will give volunteers a structured introduction to knowledge and skills for this fun creative work. Please note in your application if you have a particular interest in sculpture / lantern-making.
Community Arts - Setup and Pack Down
What: Setup and pack down of the Community Arts area. Including building the framework for Festival projects. Sorting all materials ready for the Festival to start and working with the coordinator on ongoing projects.Who: Creative types who are physically fit and not afraid of a little creative hard work. Skills in Carpentry, and Construction are also highly desirable.
When: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday pre-Festival and Tuesday and Wednesday post-Festival between 8am and 6pm daily (in this team you will do more than the required 20 hours. We work until the job is done but have a great time doing it.
How: Compulsory face-to-face training provided before first shift.
Construction
What: Assembly of the site infrastructure and decorations including the Festival mural boards, Community Arts and other Festival specific projects.Who: Volunteers must be physically fit and happy to put in a full day’s work. People with building or trade skills are highly desirable for this team. We are looking for at least one person with forklift qualifications. Some younger skilled volunteers willing to become part of continuing teams are encouraged and it is hoped that the earlier weekend start will make this possible.
When: Pre-Festival: Saturday 4 April – Thursday 7 April. Post-Festival: Monday 13 April – Thursday 16 April 2020
PLEASE NOTE that first shift will commence 8.30am Saturday with a view to complete the main work by Tuesday. Volunteers wishing to commence later in the week will be expected to be available post festival in order to fill in their hours.
Festival Office - TEAM FULL
What: Respond to enquiries from the public, other volunteer teams, and staff, both in person and on the phone. Assist Festival staff and area coordinators with a variety of administrative tasks.Who: People with office & telephone experience, combined with good communications skills are highly desirable. We like friendly outgoing personalities, who also work well under pressure.
When: Sunday pre-Festival to Wednesday post-Festival. Opening between 8am and 11pm. For volunteers working in the pre-festival period, rosters will reflect 10 hours to be worked pre-festival and ten hours during the festival. All volunteers work through a rotation of shifts (evening, morning, afternoon, etc).
How: Face-to face-training offered on the Sunday before the Festival if you can get there. Otherwise, training during your first shift, and pairing with an experienced office volunteer. Before the Festival the Coordinator also supplies ‘what to expect, common enquiry response’ information.
Shift Managers: The Festival Office team has a number of shift managers. If you have a management, admin or customer service background and would like to be considered for a shift management position please mention so and upload your resume along with your application or talk with your coordinator once you have been assigned to a team.
Festival Registration
What: Welcoming Festival performers and volunteers as they arrive. Redeeming PDF tickets, issuing wristbands, volunteer nametags, Festival programs and vehicle passes as required.Who: A great can do attitude and a smile are essential for this team. You are the first point of contact for all Festival performers and volunteers. The ability to think fast on your feet, understand and follow procedures in a variety of tasks including ticket sales and stallholder registration on arrival. Ability to remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced office is also an advantage.
When: Must be available Wednesday pre-Festival (Volunteer Orientation Day) and for shifts Thursday through Saturday of the Festival, between 8am and midnight.
How: On the job training will be provided during your first shift.
Festival Shop
What: The sale of all Festival and performer merchandise including CD’s, T Shirts, Festival Mugs, Posters and programs. This team also manage the setup and packdown of the shop, includingWho: People with customer service and retail experience who can operate cash registers and EFTPOS highly desirable. Good people skills and attention to detail is a must.
When:
- Sales – Thursday to Monday of the Festival.
- Setup and Packdown – Saturday pre-Festival to Thursday, and Tuesday post-Festival.
How: Compulsory face-to-face training held prior to your first shift.Shift Managers: The Festival Shop has a number of shift managers. If you have a management, admin or customer service background and would like to be considered for a shift management position please mention so and upload your resume along with your application, or talk with your coordinator once you have been assigned to a team.
Festival Shop - Stock Check In
What: Receiving and returning consignment merchandise (eg. Band CD's). This role requires good computer literacy and attention to detail, as it requires large amounts of data entry.Who: Festival shop registration requires staff with good IT skills. Data entry experience is highly desirable. Volunteers working in this area need to be extremely accurate, pay high attention to detail, have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work under pressure.
When: Wednesday – Monday of the Festival. Must be available for shifts on the Thursday and Monday of the Festival.
How: Compulsory face-to-face training held prior to your first shift.
Festival Site Crew
What: This team works during the Festival, troubleshooting odd jobs that arise each day. From fixing fences, delivering furniture and equipment or moving bollards, you will work directly with the Production Manager and Site Manager helping to complete daily jobs.Who: Must be physically able
When: Volunteers on this team will be required to complete 20 hours across 5 days during the Festival.
How: On the job training will be provided during your first shift.
Festival Transport
What: Festival Transport is responsible for transporting performers to and from the airport, their hotels and the Festival, as well as ferrying patrons around the Festival site on the Shuttle Bus loop. There are a variety of positions in this team, including Office Managers, Performer Drivers and Shuttle Bus Drivers. Please indicate your job preference and any relevant experience when applying.Who: Drivers must be 25 with a faultless driving record. Office Managers must be highly organised with the ability to work under pressure.
When: Drivers work Monday pre-Festival to Tuesday post-Festival. Office Managers work Thurday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday during the Festival. The core hours for this team are between 8am and 1am however there are some shifts that go until 3am.
How: Compulsory face-to-face training Sunday pre-Festival or before your first shift. TBA by Area Coordinator.
Firewood Team
What: Festival fire bin management including setting up fire bins, splitting logs, delivering firewood, lighting bins.Who: Physically fit with the ability to follow procedure. If you have ever had a back injury this is not the team for you.
When: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday between midday and midnight.
How: Face-to-face training requirements before first shift.
Flute and Fiddle Venue
(This is a closed team – Only apply for the Flute and Fiddle Venue if pre-arranged with the Coordinator)What: The Flute and Fiddle venue team are responsible for the venue management, MC duties and Greenroom hosting.
Who: Friendly, outgoing, physically fit people with a good knowledge of the Festival is preferred. MC or Venue Management experience is an advantage in this position.
When: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday between 10am and 2am
How:Compulsory face-to-face training provided before first shift.
Gates Team - Gate 7 / Wells
What: Greeting Festival attendees as they enter and exit the Festival site at the main ticket office. Ensuring that attendees have the appropriate Festival pass. Directing traffic and checking vehicle passes when working in the car park on on a vehicle gate. Working with event security to welcome attendees to the Festival.Who: Responsible, friendly folk with good communication and interpersonal skills, but not afraid to be assertive as required. In this team you are the face of the Festival often being the first point of contact for attendees, performers and fellow volunteers. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, work outside in potentially hot, cold or wet conditions, and walk between gates and other parts of the site.
When: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday between 8am and midnight
How: Face-to-face briefing TBA by area coordinators.
Shift Managers: The Gates team has a number of shift managers. If you have a management, production or customer service background and would like to be considered for a shift management position please make an indication and upload your resume along with your application, or talk with your coordinator once you have been assigned to a team.
Gates Team - Pre Festival Period - TEAM FULL
What: Greeting Festival attendees as they enter the Festival site ensuring that all attendees have the appropriate accreditation. Monitoring the internal construction zone pre Festival to ensure that only appropriate personal enter and exit. Assist when necessary with early performer, volunteer, stallholder and contractor entry to the site. Assisting with car park management and working with onsite security when required.Who: Responsible, friendly folk with good communication and interpersonal skills who are not afraid to be assertive at times. In this team you are the face of the Festival, often being the first point of contact for attendees, performers and fellow volunteers. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, work outside in potentially hot, cold or wet conditions and walk between gates and other parts of the site.
When: Friday pre-Festival – Thursday pre-Festival 8am to midnight. This team requires you to complete 30 hours of work over a 6 day period.
How: Face-to-face briefing prior to first shift.
Shift Managers: The Gates team has a number of shift managers. If you have a management, production or customer service background and would like to be considered for a shift management position please make an indication and upload your resume along with your application, or talk with your coordinator once you have been assigned to a team.
Gates Team - Welcome Gates
What: Greeting festival attendees as they enter or exit the Festival Entertainment Zone. Ensuring attendees have the appropriate Festival Pass. Directing traffic and working with event security when required. Must be flexible to work early and late shifts(7am-2am), and be available for most of the festival period (Thursday-Monday). Under 18's require parental consent to work late shifts. Friendly and outgoing people with customer service and radio experience preferred.Who: Responsible, fun, friendly folk with good communication and interpersonal skills. In this team you are the face of the Festival often being the first point of contact for attendees, performers and fellow volunteers. Desirable that applicants have aptitude or experience and enthusiasm for hospitality, customer service and security awareness.
When: All 5 days of the Festival, 8am to 2am. Volunteers are expected to be available for their 20 hours across all days. Please note that all volunteers in this team are expected to work one “late shift” to ensure fairness of shift allocation.

Shift Managers: The Gates team has a number of shift managers. If you have a management, production or customer service background and would like to be considered for a shift management position please make an indication and upload your resume along with your application, or talk with your coordinator once you have been assigned to a team.
Instrument Lockup
What: Checking performers instruments in and out of Lockup and assisting performers transport their instruments to and from concerts. The latter may involve trolley pushing and driving buggies and utes.Who: Good communication skills and high attention to detail. Physically fit is desirable as the job involves manual handling and trolley pushing.
When: Thursday (set-up & operation), Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday (pack down) between 8am and midnight. Lockup operates very late in order to cater to performers’ needs – this means volunteer shifts are mostly afternoon – night.
How:A Guide to Lockup Procedures will be provided prior to the Festival, and face-to-face training will be provided during your first shift.
IT Support Team
What: Assisting with all things IT at the Festival including software, hardware and installation.Who: IT experience in either hardware or software is essential. An understanding of Windows operating systems is preferred. Physically fit and able to lift equipment and computers is essential.
When: Flexible hours Pre and Post Festival and the Festival period between 8am and 8pm
How: Face to face training with the IT Team before first shift.
Kids Festival
What: Supervise games and crafts for kids helping to make their Festival experience a happy one.Who: People with prior experience working with children preferred. Arty and creative types who are not worried about a bit of paint are also desirable. All team members must complete a Police Check prior to the start of the Festival.
When: Wednesday, Thursday (setup), Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday (packdown) between 9am and 6pm daily.
How: Face-to-face training will be provided during your first shift.
Kids Festival - Parents Room
What: Looking after all aspects of the Festivals Parents room including:Maintaining a warm welcoming space for parents and families to look after their little ones and escape the hustle and bustle of the Festival. Looking after the setup and packdown of the space. Assisting parents with any requirements they have while visiting the space. Keeping the area clean and tidy and replenishing supplies as needed.
Who: People with a passion for families and children is preferred. An understanding of the needs of families who are looking after little ones is also an advantage.
When: Thursday (setup), Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday (includes packdown) between 10am and 6pm.
How: Face-to-face briefing with the KidzFest coordinator during your first shift.
Lost Property
What: Running the Lost Property Office at the Festival.This involves:
- Using the Lost & Found Database and processing and entering information on the Lost Property computer
- Tagging items that are handed in
- Filing Lost Items Registration Forms
- Regular checking of the database to try to identify items which can be returned to owners
- collecting lost property held at other venues on site
- Processing claims for retrieval/return of lost property
- Assisting in the sorting and packing of lost property for storage in the Folk Festival headquarters after the Festival
Who: Working in the Lost Property Office will appeal to those who enjoy working with and helping people. Having an eye for detail and good interpersonal communication skills are a must for this team. Experience using computers and databases is also an advantage as the Lost Property system is computerised.
When: Festival Thursday – Tuesday post-Festival between 8am and 10pm
How:Face to face training at the beginning of the first shift.
MCs - TEAM FULL
What: Provide a formative link between Festival performers and venue audiences by succinctly and informatively introducing performers and providing relevant information at the concerts conclusion. Make announcements to the audience as instructed by the Festival Director or MC coordinator.Who: Volunteers must be able to speak clearly and with confidence as well as follow direction from the Venue Manager, Coordinator and Festival Director. Experience as an MC is highly desirable and volunteers who have been a past MC at the National or another Festival will be given preference. Please ensure you outline your experience in your application. A preparedness to be flexibly rostered across the whole of the festival’s hours and venues is preferred.
When: A preparedness to be flexibly rostered across the whole of the Festival’s hours from Thursday 3pm to Midnight, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 8am to 2am and Monday 8am to midnight.
How:Compulsory face-to-face training held on the Thursday evening.
Mesh Team
What: This team is responsible for dressing all of the festival fencing and hoarding with mesh and screening.Who: A good level of physical fitness is desirable as you are working outdoors on your feet.
When: Pre-Festival: Saturday 4 April – Thursday 7 April. Post-Festival: Monday 13 April – Thursday 16 April 2020
How: Face-to-face training is provided at the start of your first shift.
Mitchell Office Team
What: Office reception duties including answering office phones and directing enqueries as needed, the sale of Festival tickets via phone in the lead up to the event including setup week and assisting Festival staff with general office administration duties.Who: People with good administration and communication skills, who work well in a team. Experience with Windows operating systems are desirable.
When: Volunteers are required to work 1 day a week between February 4 and the start of the Festival.
How: On the job training at the start of the first shift in the Mitchell office. This team requires 40 hours of work over a 3 month period.

Performer Services
What: This team is the face of the Festival for our performers. Located in our new Performer HQ, team members will assist performers with their questions and needs during the Festival.Who: People who are personable with good administration and communication skills, who work well in a team. To work in this team you will need to be a creative and resourceful problem solver who can work calmly and politely under pressure. The ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with attention to detail would also be desirable.
When: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday between 8am and 10pm.
How: Compulsory face-to-face training requirements TBA by the Artistic team and your coordinator.
Post Festival Clean Up Team
What: This team does the clean up and pack-down of the Festival site, working with the pack-down volunteers to leave the site in a better condition than when we started.Who: Volunteers must be physically fit and not afraid of getting a little dirty!
When: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday post-Festival between 8am and 6pm (volunteers in this team are now required to complete 20 hours of work in order to qualify for a refund).
How: Face-to-face training will be provided on the Tuesday morning post-Festival.
Please note: All volunteers in this team must pre-purchase their Festival ticket and then apply for a ticket refund at the end of the Festival. All applications for refund must be received no later than 28 days after the end of the Festival.
Program Sales
What: The sale of Festival programs and merchandise to patrons as they arrive at the event and around the Festival site.Who: Good communication and interpersonal skills with a happy outlook as you are dealing with the public. A good level of physical fitness is required for this position are you are walking around the site and carrying merchandise.
When: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday between 8am and 8pm.
How:Compulsory face-to-face training requirements TBA by your coordinator.
Raffle Tickets and Festival Surveys
What: 1. The sales of Festival raffle tickets to Festival attendees. 2. Conduct the on-site survey of Festival attendees.Who: Good communication, interpersonal and customer service skills are highly desirable. You need to be comfortable with sales and have a happy outlook as you are dealing with the public.
When: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday between 8am and midnight.
How: Compulsory face-to-face training requirements TBA by your coordinator.
Set Design
What: From decorating the theme bars to creating one off installations, if you are creative and like a challenge then this is the team for you. No idea is too big or small when it comes to creating the perfect world. This is team that shares creative different ideas to create on overall artistic feeling of the festival under the parameters that have been set up by the festival team. Any form of artistry is welcome. If you have an idea for a great ‘art’, get in touch with the Coordinator to discuss before the Festival.Who: Creative types who enjoy a challenge. The ability to think outside the box and create something from nothing is always helpful. Artistry and or carpentry skills and experience with design is an advantage but not essential.
When: Pre-Festival: Saturday 4 April – Thursday 7 April. Post-Festival: Monday 13 April – Thursday 16 April 2020. This team requires you to complete 30 hours of work, equivalent to about 4 days’ work with a lunch break. Lunch is provided on the days when you work the full day.
How: Briefing on the projects as set at the beginning of each shift. Guidance on techniques is given if needed.
Setup and Pack Down
What: The set up and pack down team are responsible for setting up the Festival site. Jobs vary every day, from setting up fences and venues, hanging up mural boards and flagging, the SUP team make the site happen! Over 6 days, the SUP team build a Festival site for everyone to enjoy. We are also responsible for packing it all up again! With 3 days to pack down, this period goes very quick. Bringing in all the equipment and set design pieces, packing and storing it into one of our 3 shipping containers.Who: Physically fit able-bodied people who are happy to put in a full day’s work. Anybody with experience in construction, an EWP ticket, a forklift licence or white card are highly desirable.

Signage
What: Producing and installing all the Festivals onsite signage from big pre made venue signs to small laminated signs that are produced onsite. All signage is sorted, cleaned and distributed across the event site. This team operates both pre Festival, during the event and during packing down post Festival.Who: Physically fit people with the ability to follow instruction. Computing skills are also desirable. Must be prepared to work outdoors some heavy listing is required.
When: Pre-Festival: Saturday 4 April – Thursday 7 April. Post-Festival: Monday 13 April – Thursday 16 April 2020. You may also be called upon during the Festival period if needed.
How: Compulsory face-to-face training requirements at the start of the first shift.
Sparkys
What: This team is responsible for setting up power to all our temporary venues and stall holders, as well as setting up festival lighting around the site. Without this team, the Festival wouldn’t have the atmosphere that it does and of course there would be no music!This team is vital to the Set Up Team, and were always after qualified sparkys to join this team.
Who: Volunteers must be physically fit and happy to put in a full day’s work. Those with Electrical trade skills highly desirable.
When: Pre-Festival: Saturday 4 April – Thursday 7 April. Post-Festival: Monday 13 April – Thursday 16 April 2020. This team requires you to complete 30 hours of work, equivalent to 4 days’ work with a lunch break. Lunch is provided every day.
If you’re able to work during the Festival, please make a note in your application and the Sparkys Coordinator will be in touch. During the Festival, this role is mainly trouble-shooting.

Stalls Team
What: The Stalls team provides support for stall holders at the Festival. Volunteers are each allocated a section of stalls to supervise and will have support from the Stalls Coordinator.Pre-Festival the team members meet and greet stall holders, and assist stall proprietors and their staff to set up stalls including access to weights, power and waste disposal and monitor stalls WHS compliance checklists. During the Festival stalls team members liaise with stall holders and respond to issues. Post Festival they supervise stall departures, checking stall sites are left clean and clear.
Who: Ability to work well with people, strong communication skills and patience are essential in working with stall holders. Lateral thinking problem-solving skills and an understanding of WHS issues is useful. If you have a forklift licence or electrical qualifications/skills that would be highly valued.
Fitness Level: Low-medium activity. Role involves walking up to 2km per shift and volunteers must be able to stand for the duration of a shift.
When: Monday preceding Festival to Tuesday after Festival between 8am and 8pm daily.
How: We encourage all Stalls Team members to attend the Volunteer orientation day on the Wednesday before the Festival begins.
Supplies
What: The Supplies area stores, secures and manages the distribution of equipment and consumables for the Festival. This includes:- Management of Festival owned equipment including hi-viz vests, coordinator boxes, mops, buckets, stationery, cleaning equipment and tea and coffee supplies, and
- Distribution on site and supply of associated consumables of hired equipment including outdoor heaters, water coolers and vacuum cleaners.
Who: As volunteers may be required to lift and or move quite heavy pieces of equipment including gas bottles and outdoor heaters they should have a good general level of fitness. The work also requires high attention to detail and good customer service and negotiation skills.
When: Saturday pre-Festival – Tuesday post-Festival between 8am and 6pm.
How: Face-to-face training is provided at the start of your first shift.
The Challenge Team
What: This team is all about fun. Do you like to dress up? Do you like to engage with people and play games? The Challenge Team is responsible activities in this Festival precinct where adventure, music and merriment collide with the quirkier aspects of folk. The team manages The Challenge and all the games on the village green and chill out spaces.Who: Friendly outgoing people with a good knowledge of the Festival.
When:Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday between 8am and 8pm.
How: Compulsory face-to-face training provided before first shift.
Ticket Office
What: Working with a great bunch of people in one of the Festival’s ticket offices. Doing anything and everything including:- Scanning and validating pre-paid tickets
- Selling all kinds of tickets, programs and passes
- Wristbanding patrons as a Band-it
- Chatting about the Festival and giving accurate information, or doing the research
- Being the first face of the Festival people see.
Who: Are you tech savvy, a quick thinker and fast on your fingers? Do you enjoy talking to people, helping them out and welcoming them to the Festival? Are you handy with an iPhone and good at selling tickets? We’re after people with cash handling, EFTPOS and computer literacy to work in a fun, sometimes fast-paced area that gives people their first impression of the Festival. Your common sense and ability to find or figure out information fast will make people’s entry to the Festival smooth and enjoyable, for you and them!
When: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday.
How: You need to learn how to use the systems and the scanners, and meet Albert the EFTPOS machine. Training is on Wednesday evening, the day before we start. If you’re interstate, we can work something out. If you’re a Band-it, we'll show you the ropes on your first shift.
Tidy Team
What: Maintain the inviting, friendly atmosphere of the Festival’s food precincts by ensuring all tables and chairs are kept clean and in good order.Who: Applicants must have physical fitness and mobility in order to undertake the duties involved in cleaning operations, including walking, bending and moderate lifting
When: Thursday, Friday, Sat,urday Sunday, Monday 8am to 10pm.
How: Compulsory face-to-face training provided TBA by coordinator.
Venue Management
What: The Venue Management team runs the performance venues at the festival. This includes liaising with performers, ensuring the venue is running to schedule, managing backstage areas, keeping the venue clean and tidy, monitoring crowd capacity in the venue and maintaining the safety of the venue and those inside. The majority of volunteers on the Venue Management team are assigned to one venue. The larger venues will also have an Assistant Venue Manager to assist the Venue Manager in running the venue. The Venue Management team also have a roving support team who provide assistance to the Venue Managers, move equipment, help with crowd management and other tasks under direction of the shift manager.Who: We are looking for people with experience in or studying stage management, theatre, live music or event management. Please be aware there are no AV or MC duties performed by the Venue Management team. Your CV is required for us to consider your application, so please ensure that you upload it as a part of your application.
When: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday of the Festival.
How: Compulsory face-to-face training is required for all positions, training will be at the start of the first shift.
Volunteer Centre - TEAM FULL
What: The Volunteer Centre provides a space for Volunteers to meet, relax and enjoy some space away from the hustle and bustle of the Festival. Working in the centre you will help maintain the tea, coffee and toast area as well as the tables.Who: Happy friendly volunteers who enjoy social situations and are happy to tidy up after others on occasion.
When: Sunday pre-Festival to Tuesday post-Festival.
How: Compulsory face-to-face training requirements TBA by Coordinator.
Volunteer Support/Top-up
What: Volunteer support is the 'top-up' team for the Festival: they fill roles which have become vacant at short notice. This team are volunteer 'ninjas' - our 'jack of all trades'. If you are happy to experience any side of the Festival and have a flexible approach to when you work then this is the team for you. You may find yourself out being the Customer Service face of the Festival, but you may also be assigned to fill shifts with a number different teams that need assistance.Who: All volunteers must be over 18, physically fit and with full mobility as you could be placed in any team over the festival period. Good people skills and a can do attitude are a must as you may complete shifts in a number of different areas including bar cashiers, gates, ticket offices, and venue management.
When: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday with possible shifts between 8am and 2am.
How: Training is provided on the job as you may be placed in a number of different teams.
Waste and Recycling
What: Helping the Festival meet its goal to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. Facilitating the collection of waste, recycling and organic bins to central locations for collection. Advising attendees and stallholders on what can and can’t be recycled.Who: Physically fit with a passion for waste management. You will do lots of walking in this team so bring some comfortable shoes!
When: Monday pre-Festival to Wednesday post-Festival.
