National Folk Festival Partners with BentSpoke to create New Brew

Oct 31, 2019

The National Folk Festival today announced an exciting new partnership with Canberra favourite, BentSpoke Brewing Co. who will be brewing an exclusive beer for the festival, aptly named BentFolk.

“The National’s fun, themed bars are always a hit with festival-goers, but adding an internationally recognised, quirky local brand like BentSpoke, and a custom brew to the mix, will take things to a whole new level next Easter,” said Helen Roben, the festival’s newly appointed Managing Director.

“The National Folk Festival is all about bringing the exciting world of folk culture to Canberra for five days every year; featuring the best local, national and international talent and now thanks to BentSpoke, the best folk-inspired local brew too!”

The Festival and boutique brewery have much in common; both priding themselves on doing things a little bit differently, a reputation for fun, emphasis on community, and bringing the best to Canberra audiences.

“Seeing these two iconic Canberrans join forces shows what a world-class entertainment and hospitality destination the region is,” said Chief Minister, Andrew Barr.

“To have international acts, Australian legends and rising talents across so many stages at The National every Easter is a coup for the city. Marry that with award-winning, locally owned and brewed beer, and it’s a great day all round.”

With BentSpoke taking home multiple medals including a Championship Trophy at the International Brewing Awards in London earlier this year for their well-crafted brews, festival goers are in for a treat with this custom brewed beer.

“For our collaboration beer, we’ve decided to source some locally grown hops and malt to showcase the local connection, and add vibrancy to the beer,” said BentSpoke head brewer and co-owner, Richard Watkins.

“The new unnamed hop varieties are grown in nearby Victoria and will add a light fruity tone and bitterness to balance. The malt, or soul of the beer, adds the body and some toasty, bready notes in harmony with the hops creating a melody on the palate.

“Not only will festival goers be able to grab a schooner of BentFolk at The National, we’ll also be supplying our specialty cider and stout to the festival for all those thirsty folk!”

One thing is for sure about Canberra’s newest dynamic duo – both are best enjoyed when chilled.

Now in its 54th year, the National Folk Festival is known for its diverse program and broad audience appeal with more than 200 acts performing throughout 20 venues over its five days, a kids festival, themed bars, food and market stalls, roving entertainment and an engaging, multi-discipline arts program.

National Folk Festival runs from Thursday 9 April to Monday 13 April 2020 in Canberra Exhibition Park. Early bird tickets on sale now at folkfestival.org.au.
