Suga Cane Mamas

The Suga Cane Mamas—Berniece Peeauakeau (née Minniecon), Georgia Corowa, and Eilla Appo—are a trio of Blak women who inspire and empower through music. Formed in 2022, they weave song and poetry to tell stories of strength, identity, and resilience. Representing Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, South Sea Islander, and Pacific Islander heritage, they perform original songs in Kabi Kabi, Bislama, Torres Strait Island, and Fijian languages. Their music explores empowerment, motherhood, and the true history of so-called Australia, including the often-overlooked stories of Blackbirding.
