THURSDAY NIGHT HIGHLIGHTS:

OPENING CONCERT – Featuring:

  • Flamenco Fire – from Queensland via Andalucia! – the shape-shifting footwork of dancer Simone Pope and the sleight of hand of Andrew Veivers on guitarra extraordinario.
  • Nathan Rogers (son of Canada’s most celebrated songwriter Stan Rogers) and The Dry Bones Band (Canada)
  • The Alan Kelly Gang (Ireland) – hotshot Irish tunesmiths with divine vocals
  • Bernard Carney – one of Australia’s favourite songwriters

 

And for the more fringe-orientated brethren…You can hit the Scrumpy Bar with its roll-out-the-barrel spit-n-sawdust auditorium and Cider House No Rules Garden – it’s a Thursday night bohemian blast – with:

  • Rapskallion – being their scallywag selves
  • Mr Richard Perso – of the multi-didge and Pele percussive footwork
  • Dr Stovepipe – ready to ignite your rhythmic arteries
  • The Tiger and Me – architects of sing-along good times, dark-edged pop-leaning folk and side-leering swagger
  • Woo Hoo Revue – ‘I think they eat gypsies for breakfast!’ Lulo Reinhardt

There’s also a fabulous Opening Dance with the Bush Capital Band

And the National Folk Club in the Flute n Fiddle – with surprise guests!

  • Battlefield Band (Scotland) – highland warriors of Scottish trad music
  • Riogh – Leading Australian Irish band
  • stringmansassy – seamless and stylish songsters from Queensland
  • Circle of Rhythm – 360 degrees of syncopation from world leading rhythm gurus – Bobby Singh, Ben Walsh and Greg Sheehan
  • Katie Noonan and Elixir – one of Australia’s leading voices and sophisticated jazz-tinged accompaniment from Elixir
  • Zulya and the Children of the Underground – sultry multi-linguistic voice of ARIA Award winner Zulya Kamalova and her band
  • Shooglenifty (Scotland) – with their ‘Acid Croft’ and psycho-strathspeys
  • Jeff Lang – one of Australia’s leading guitarists
  • Chris While & Julie Matthews (UK) – leading ladies of folk song
