WORKSHOP HIGHLIGHTS

Passing on traditions and skills is a key part of the National Folk Festival each year, and workshops offer a space to learn directly from expert proponents of their artforms. Whether it be instrumental tips and tricks, tunes from a particular folk tradition, or sharing songs, there is something for all ages and stages of learners. Remember, its never too late to start something new! Read on for a some highlights from the Workshop Program of the 2025 Festival.

  • Join Ngunnawal custodian Richie Allan as he shares his knowledge of Ngunnawal traditions.

  • Guitarists, don't miss the opportunity to learn some accompaniment tips and tricks from Jenn Butterworth, one of the most notable folk guitarists in the UK acoustic music scene.

  • Learn all about Bluegrass music and upskill on your instrument with the fine folks from the High Street Drifters.

 

  • Learn a tune and have some fun with the famous Melboure Scottish Fiddlers in their workshop.

 

  • Bring your harmonica or your diatonic accordion along and learn from the famed UK virtuoso Will Pound.

 

  • Join the Redfern Shanty Club for an engaging singing workshop and keep the tradition of sea shanties alive and stalwart.

  • Experiment with Kecak, Balinese vocal percussion, under the expert guidace of Gamelan DanAnda.

  • Don a blindfold and sing along with The Other Noonans in their workshop, How to Folk in the Dark.

  • Learn all about barbershop tags with the Canberra Harmony Chorus and The Canberra Chordsmen
